Thrifting and a little cheating

Hope everyone had a wonderful week-end. It was sunny here but cold... well cold to us here in the south. Sending warm wishes to those of you in the north east. I can't even imagine dealing with that much snow.
It has been a lazy week-end here but I did manage to get in a little thrifting. When I went in my favorite thrift shop the first thing to catch my eye were these glasses.

I loved the color and knew that they had to come home with me. I stopped in another little shop and  spotted these beautiful toile pillows. I already had some toile fabric and plans to make some but this was even better, they were already made! I'm sure I'll find a use for my fabric but for now it will go in my fabric stash.

Sorry about the quality of this shot but the sun was  pouring in through the windows.
Sun???     windows???         That gave me a great idea!
I have mentioned earlier how I was so ready for spring so I decided I was going to cheat a little. I was going to have spring in one room of my house now! I set about replacing winter pillows and throws with the new pillows and some shabby shams across the back of the chairs.

I removed the little snowman vignette and replaced it with a bucket of spring flowers and eggs. Yes, I said eggs. If I'm going to cheat I may as well go for some spring eggs as well. I then decided to print Spring in blue and place in a small frame just in case anyone had any doubts about the season.

I even added a few daffodills to the crystal vase. I am really trying to hurry spring along here.

The rest of the house may be dressed for winter with snowflakes and snowmen but this little room is ready for spring. I think this will be the perfect place to do my morning devotions. I can set in the sunshine, and pretend it is already spring. Maybe I should get out the sun glasses and lather on a little sun screen just to help convince myself it is spring. Do they make candles with a sun lotion scent?

Thanks for dropping by. I would be delighted to share my little sun room with you. Y'all come back now.

A few thrifty finds

Is it just me or is this summer going by at break neck speed? Maybe it's because my "to do" list keeps growing instead of shrinking. Honestly, I am working hard at completing those projects I saved until  summer but every time I set down to enjoy  a little blog surfing, I see all these wonderful things going on and I just have to add them to my list.

That being said, I decided to take a little break today and go north across the line into N.C. in search of cooler air. I not only found cooler air, I found. . .  you guessed it, some fun thrift shops.

There were so many wonderful things but I was good and only brought home a few. The little candle snuffer was just 50 cents. It should help with the wall candle sconces. It was either buy this or grow taller so I can blow them out.

I love these watermelon placemats. There were only 5 but they were just $2.50 and I'm going to use them to make more pillows for the front porch.

The toile memo board is already up and ready for use. It seems I need memos and sticky notes more and more. Can you buy them by the truck load? With the aging of America, maybe that's something I should buy stock in.
Glad you dropped by and y'all come back! I'm linking to Thrifty Things Friday  Come join the fun!

Vintage Tray and votive holders

I know lots of folks have made these votive holders around blog land but I love them and had to make them. I got the candlesticks at Goodwill for fifty cents and the votive holders were two dollars for three.

They were so easy, just glue them together with E-6000 glue. I love that stuff. Wish it was around when I was a child, I probably wouldn't have gotten as many spankings!

The tray was a Goodwill find as well.It was natural wood, and had a cross stitched fabric under the glass that  was badly stained.  I always forget to take before pictures... I am so anxious to get started :(
I cleaned it and removed the cross stitch but could not get the stains out. I think they were from the glue someone had used to attach it

I sanded, spray painted , and replaced the fabric with toile scrap booking paper. The glass and wooden oval easily slide out for quick replacement. I haven't given up on the cross stitch. It is so lovely.

I'm going to try to stain the entire piece with tea. Has anyone tried tea staining? I'm not sure how it's done.

Have a good week and y'all come back!
