I stopped by the Goodwill on the way to the beach while Mr. VS sat in the car (not his favorite place to go but he puts up with it.) When I spotted it I thought it was just the right height and length for the condo entry. I knew the mirror would have to go... to dated. It reminded me of Bonanza. Do any of you remember that show? Anyway, I digress. Here she is.
I asked Mr. VS to go in and take a look while I sat with Skipper. As much as they love us there they will not allow dogs. In my haste, as by this point Mr. VS nor Skipper were very happy. I forgot to mention the mirror. Did I tell you it gets hot in the car in SC in May?
Long story short, Mr. VS thought it was broken and hideous... but I won.
The first thing
Then we reattached the top center with wood glue and sanded it all over. I painted it with a coat of my oops paint I had left over from my china hutch redo . Then I changed out the drawer pull with a crystal look pull from Home Depot. The table was twenty-two with my senior discount and the hardware 3.50.
Now to the decision. It is bright and happy looking in the entry but I'm just not sure. I'm trying to decide if I should distress it a little.(There isn't a lot of detail on this piece to highlight though), and tone it down with a little whitewash or walnut minwax? Mr. VS wanted to leave it as is but then that would require more painting and he has after all painted all of the condo and
Please let me know what you think. I am really going back and forth on this one. So glad you dropped by and y'all come back.

I love the color! It looks happy. I understand your dilemma, though. I made a bright yellow sign for my kitchen that I thought was perhaps too bright. One of my readers suggested living with it a while to see if I liked it later. I did. I do.:)
ReplyDeletelove the turquoise! well done. thanks for stopping by my blog.

Yes, I do remember Bonanza! :)
ReplyDeleteYour vision for this piece was spot on. I have a hard time envisioning how something might look. It is great without the mirror, too. As far as the distressing, do you have much other furniture that is distressed? It might add a little more interest or even the waxes that some people use in their refinishing. The suggestion by ritajoy to live with it for a while is a very good one. You can always do more to it later if you decide to.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I love the color of your entry table!! And the picnic basket under it gave me an idea!!
ReplyDeleteI love it just like it is! That is one of my fav colors! You did a great job of re-purposing this! Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou7r vision was spot on! Love the turquoise!!!
ReplyDeleteBonanza was my fav growing up! Sometimes it's on in our Drs waiting room when we are there and my 20 yr old son loves it! LOL
Have a great weekend!
*hugs*deb
I love your beachy makeover
ReplyDeleteHPS!
Love the color, it is so cheerful. I recently painted a piece similar to this color which I did end up distressing. I really depends on the look that you want. Distressing will give it a totally different look so you should live with it before deciding. I use dark waxes or Minwax Provencial stain to do most of my distressing. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog.

What a wonderful transformation. I like the color, but probably would have distressed it a bit...that's just the style I have in my home. Sounds like you think it's missing something. How about painting a sample board and distressing or waxing it. Then you can see just how it would look. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThe color is gorgeous- I love this little desk and the makeover you gave it. It's beautiful! Would love for you to come share at Feathered Nest Friday sometime~ Well done!
ReplyDeleteOh Annette, that turned out great! Beautiful color. I can't wait to see what you do with the mirror! Thank you for joinng TTF. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe color is amazing and looks perfect with your starfish and accents. It's always astounding what some paint can do to transform a piece...great job!

What a cute table.
ReplyDeleteMy Blue Monday.
It looks so nice in blue ~ green.
ReplyDeleteI would leave it just as it is. Thanks for sharing your blues.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blue Monday, Annette.
Your little table looked nice either way. The makeover really is pretty in the pale blue.
ReplyDeleteReally like the color you used on this table. It's bright and fresh. If you're not too sure about this- why not just sand off a few places and use a colored wax. The color you used is NOT bright, but if you have some concern, this may be a good option for you. ~ Sue
ReplyDeleteHappy Blue Monday!
ReplyDeleteYes I remember "Bonanza" and have probably seen most of the episodes, since our younger son was a HUGE fan of westerns..lol!
I LOVE this pretty bright color too! Can you do a test area on the back to see if you would want to distress it?
I think it is pretty and very beachy! But then I grew up in Florida..lol!
Hugs,
Lynn♥
