Warbird Park

Warbird Park is dedicated to those who served at the now closed Myrtle Beach Air Force Base.

Pilots often painted nose art , a decorative painting or design, to go with the name they had given their planes.

The park sits near the former main gate of the base.

Dining Table and Chairs Makeover

Last winter, as many of you know we bought our little home away from home condo at the beach and started the process of making it our home. I posted a picture of my thrift store china hutch and  a glimpse of the table and chairs.

Today I thought I would show you the chairs up close and personal. I found the table and chairs at another thrift store. There were four side chairs and one armed chair (sounds like it's packing heat). Anyway...
They were dark wood and badly scratched  so I did what I always do ... painted them white!

I always forget to take before pictures, just to anxious to get started I guess.

The plan was to cover the seats in blue toile but I just couldn't cover over these seats.
All of them are in pastel colors.

 There was no stains so I just cleaned them for my own

piece of mind with upholstery/carpet cleaner and kept them as they are.

The armed chair guards the door with a little $1.00 Goodwill pillow.

The plates and chargers are yard sale finds. The chargers are wooden, Pier 1 and they were Christmas

red and green. I painted them with a Folk Art taupe color. 

The cute little ceramic shell napkin rings are vintage, like me. One of my special education classes painted these as a fund raiser.

 I think they did a great job of getting them so realistic.

They got them in greenware, cleaned, fired and glazed them.

The table cloth is another Goodwill find and I got the pitcher at Target as a clearance item.

It is difficult to see in the picture but it matches the turquoise oops paint I used inside the china
hutch perfectly.

What to do when you are frantic and stressed...

Wait for the Lord's help. Be strong and brave, and wait for the Lord's help.   Psalms 27:14

Wait and trust the Lord. Don't be upset when others get rich or when someone else's plans succeed.
Don't get angry. Don't be upset; it only leads to trouble. It is better to have little and be right than to have
much and be wrong.       Psalms 37:7-8,16

It is better to finish something than to start it. It is better to be patient than to be proud. Don't become angry quickly, because getting angry is foolish.    Ecclesiastes  7:8-9

Dinosaur- writing checks

I know I'm getting older but today topped the cake! I went to do a little shopping at a local department store and came away feeling like a dinosaur!

While waiting, forever, in the check out line I completed my check except for the amount. When I get up to the register the cashier says,"Oh! your going to pay with a check? let me see what I haaave to do! He then leaves the register and goes to another employee and starts a discussion. They talk and look over at me like I am holding a gun instead of a check book. When he returns he says "Fill it out and I'll have to go to another machine to run it through, then I'll need a picture ID and you will need to sign," ...all the while eyeing me as if I had dropped from space.

I give him the check and ask Do you not ever get checks? To that he replied, even more annoyed, checks are going out! Everyone uses debit cards now. Soon there will be no more checks. I was so humiliated. A customer behind me having heard the conversation says "A lot he knows, my mom and a lot of other seniors will never give up their checks." I know she was trying to make me feel better but somehow I felt older and more out of touch than ever.

My question- Do you still use checks or do you use a debit card? Am I the last of the check writing dinosaurs?
