Thrifty Fall Finds

I know I said I was going to decorate with what I already have for fall

well, I lied!

I didn't mean to. That really was my plan.

I visited Goodwill and well you know the rest of the story ... these little dessert plates hopped right in my


 cart when I passed by.

I love the little leaf detail.

This white pitcher followed right behind them.

The six dessert plates were only 2.25 with my senior,  young and fiesty, discount.

The pitcher was the same. I love to use pitchers as floral vases, especially white ones.

I'm going to Try to not buy any more fall things. I think I jinxed myself

but

a relaxed day of bargain hunting and enjoying the season can be such fun!

Dresser Makeover

Happy Monday everyone! Slowly but surely I am getting a few projects completed. As you know we got the beach condo last fall and have been working our fingers off  restoring and decorating to make the place more "us".
Last week I posted pictures of the guest room with recent nautical finds. I'm returning to this room again today as I have  finally  finished my  dresser redo and created a small reading corner. The dresser was free as it was a cast off in my attic back  home. I sanded, primed and painted it white to go with the other pieces we are collecting. I put a table runner across the top for the photo as it was blending in with the wall.
The wall looks white but IRL it is a creamy yellow, Behr Innocence. I love the shade so much I plan to paint the master bedroom that color back home.

The mirror, that I chopped off... luckily my painting skills are better that my photography skills, I got at Hobby Lobby for $20.00. It was one of their 1/2 off sales.

The little light house is a night light and the other items are items I've collected this summer.

I needed something in the corner so I pulled together a little reading corner. The floor lamp was a Goodwill find.The little picture frame I got at Dollar Tree, painted it white and added a ribbon. I printed the grand babies shot in black and white to give a more vintage feel. The magazine rack was $2.00 from a thrift shop. It was red and green and had holly decorations for Christmas. I painted it navy.

The chair was another attic find. I covered the seat in a navy upholstery fabric. Just stretch and staple!
The nautical pillow, another Goodwill find. I ordered the fabric from a lady on ebay to make the two pillows in the floor. And now it is complete. One more corner of the condo finished.

I had plans to go out thrifting today to some shops along the beach strand but the rain is relentless. I'm afraid to venture to my car without a life preserver. Anyone know anything about boat building?

Vintage Tray and votive holders

I know lots of folks have made these votive holders around blog land but I love them and had to make them. I got the candlesticks at Goodwill for fifty cents and the votive holders were two dollars for three.

They were so easy, just glue them together with E-6000 glue. I love that stuff. Wish it was around when I was a child, I probably wouldn't have gotten as many spankings!

The tray was a Goodwill find as well.It was natural wood, and had a cross stitched fabric under the glass that  was badly stained.  I always forget to take before pictures... I am so anxious to get started :(
I cleaned it and removed the cross stitch but could not get the stains out. I think they were from the glue someone had used to attach it

I sanded, spray painted , and replaced the fabric with toile scrap booking paper.The glass and wooden oval easily slide out for quick replacement. I haven't given up on the cross stitch.It is so lovely.

I'm going to try to stain the entire piece with tea. Has anyone tried tea staining? I'm not sure how it's done.

Chandelier Upgrade

I am so excited, I found a chandelier! I was actually looking for one for the beach condo but found  one for my foyer at home.

This is what I have up now,a brass, builders grade fixture.

I can't believe I was lucky enough to find this at Goodwill. It is new. The owner had actually attached the bill of sale along with the lifetime warranty to it. Original purchase price was $239 and Goodwill had tagged it $124. There was also a note that someone had written 1 of 3 pieces.After inquiring and a great deal of searching on the employees part, bless her heart, she came up with 2 more boxes.

 The first box included the candle covers for these strange looking "thingys".

And the last box included the glass candle covers, the chain and all of the "parts" I guess no one had inquired

about the other parts

Because.........

It was week 24 which meant it was1/2 off of the Goodwill price

$62.00

I was so excited...I couldn't wait to get it home

Mr. Vintagesouthern did not share my excitement however because we have a two story foyer.However he

did get it hung while I  watched and gave my unwanted advice.I tried to be a good electrician's helper and even kept my phone close by  in case I needed to call 911. We are both glad this job is complete and without injury or divorce!
 I see the picture behind him will have to come down so I can darken the frame up but survival instinct tells me
today is not the day!

One last thing, a tip about thrift store shopping. Don't just browse, Dig! You never know what you will unearth. I knew an owner that was that detailed would not send half of a light fixture.

P.S. I have plans for the light that came down but that will be another adventure.
