Happy Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day
from
My house to yours!

Memorial Day kicks off my favorite season, summer. A time of family outings, picnics, barbeque's, beach,    sun, camping and lots of fun times.

As I think of summer my mind drifts down memory lane to summers past. Days of lying for hours on the beach. (Yea I did and I have the wrinkles to prove it)...wading into the tide, flip flops, sun dresses ,big floppy straw hats, and picnics at the shore.  But best of all.... not a care in the world!

All this thinking, besides giving me a headache, inspired me to pull out some of my favorite things and do a little Memorial Day decorating. Now, my entryway looks a little more patriotic.

While I find myself lost in remembering the good times  I will remember all of the soldiers who  fought to make and keep this a land of the free and a home of the brave. A land where one can enjoy the freedom of basking in the sun, jogging down the beach,or going where ever ones heart desires.  Although thanks is not enough,

Thank You  from this southern girl for all of your sacrifices.

Old hutch....new home

I am doing the happy dance. This is the hutch I bought earlier this year at a thrift shop. She was painted
yellow and had bamboo stems painted on her lower doors.

After blood, sweat, and tears this is her now....             well, at least after sweat and tears!

Please excuse the basket in the floor. That is Skipper,
our Shitzu's toy basket I forgot to move. It really doesn't matter he moves his toys all around the room anyway.

The first obstacle was getting her up to the second floor.I really expected her, Mr. Vintagesouthern, or both to go tumbling down the stairs.... hence the sweat part of this project.

Next came the sanding, Kiltz and two coats of paint. After it dried I lightly antiqued her to give her back her aged look.
I painted the inside of the hutch with Oops paint from Lowes. It is a robins egg blue and was just what I was looking for to do some accent pieces. It was a real steal for $1.00.

Finally, I concentrated on filling her up. All of the treasures were thrift shop and Goodwill finds except
the beachy serving tray and candle on top which were gifts from my sweet sister. The shell napkin rings
are ceramic and were made by my students as a fund raising project.

Glad you dropped by. Please come back as we slowly attempt to give our beach condo  a vintage cottage look... one paint can at a time.

Paint the bedroom brown?

It is time to paint the master bedroom. After looking through my inspiration files I keep coming back to these photos. It's been so long I don't even remember where I found them...possibly a dream home photo.

I love the rich brown walls and the classy, traditional
accessories. Is brown still in?
Now I will need new bedding, photo frames, accessories .... I'm tired already!
